More precisely 99942 is Apophis, 2012 is ???, 2029 and 2036 are predictions when this NEO or near earth object could potentially collide with the earth or pass near enough to the earth to have an effect on the planet or climate.
Apophis as all kinds of mystery associated to it. This near earth asteroid was discovered on June 19, 2004 by Roy A. Tucker, David J. Tholen, and Fabrizio Bernardi and code named 99942 Apophis.
The 999-42 will certainly have many end time gurus spinning it to a 666 story once 2012 rolls by. Astronomical researches state that in 2013 this orbiting asteroid (star like object of the Aten class ) will be close enough to earth, approximately 14 million kms, for them to make better speculations about future possibilities of an earth collision.
In 2029 Apophis will make a closer approach which will put it in an Apollo Class NEO. However, there is no need to worry, according to the experts. However this may not be so comforting for the humans who will be living out these end time stories in that year. To add to the fear factor the story tellers in the years leading up to 2029 will likely spin some Friday the 13th stuff in there.

When one looks at this image it is impossible not to somehow associate the Edgar Cayce Atlantis and Lemuria lost civilizations into this phenomena.
Here's a path of destruction that includes 2012 2029 2036 99942, the Maya Yucatan peninsula, the Sitchin Nibiru mystery, and the Book of Revelation predictions or prophecies that mention not one comet, but two of them that come into the making of a perfect end time revelation.
The Pacific ocean is the land of Lemuria, the Atlantic is the land of Atlantis, the central American continent, or Mesoamerica is the land where Cayce states that these ancients civilization survivors went to merge in with the Maya, Inca, Aztec and other cultures, as they watched there own continents sink. Apophis is Apep and the enemy of Ra ( interestingly Wilcox is an incarnate Ra as was Cayce by some accounts).
On an Egypt tourist site we find an article which gives us this description of Apophis.
With the possible exception of Aten........no single Egyptian god was considered to be all powerful........Apophis ( Egyptian Apep ) was the great adversary of the sun god Re and was the very embodiment of the powers of dissolution, darkness, and non-being. Hence, he was sort of void or black hole........The point here is that Ra seems to be the Sun or core of the solar system while Apophis seems to be a duality or brown dwarf type entity who comes around every now and then to visit. During these periods Apophis shows up every night and threatens to arm the earthlings but the man God, in the Egyptian case, the Pharoah and his entourage of priest kings protect the lesser humans.
